i mean, unless you really need to cause i know what it feels like when hunger strikes but the point of this thread is to collapse the wave function on expenses when using DoorDash versus cooking your own food.

I know it's not really apples to apples because sometimes we cant make food as delicious as other fine dining establishments. cooking is a skill that is learned and sharpened over time.

Here's what I want you to do, if you so volunteer to do so.
Find something you can make at home and record the cost to make the said item.

Then, go try to find something on DoorDash with the same or similar thing to the thing you just made. Try this with a food app too.

Total up the cost to make and the cost to DoorDash and subtract them from one another.

I'll start!
Today on the 27th of April, I made beef burritos with cilantro, white onions, green onions and monterry jack cheese.

The cost to make the beef burritos:
$4.49 - 8ct Mission Tortillas
$5.99 - Tostito Chips
$3.99 - Tostito Salsa
$0.79 - Cilantro
$1.08 - Green Onions
$1.07 - 1 White Onion
$4.99 - 1 1/2 lb 80/20 Ground Beef
$2.29 - Kroger Brand Shredded Cheese

The total cost to make the beef burritos with enough for leftovers is $24.69.

A similar meal I order at Del Taco:
$14.79 - Beef Burrito Combo Meal w/ Large Fry & Large Diet Coke.
$5.99 - Delivery Fee
$5.43 - Fees & Estimated Tax
$4.00 - Default DoorDash Tip

The total cost to use DoorDash delivery here is $30.21.

If I was not sharing with my wife, this is enough to get me through the whole day if I had the burritos for leftovers and I actually ended up consuming more food as a result of cooking. So I could have taken some for work.

PLUS. Leftover ingredients, I have extra everything except for ground beef. So if I wanted to make even more I would just pay $4.99 for more ground beef.

TOTAL SAVED: $5.52
