Thinking about hosting a server of some sort...

While chasing around I guess sort of retro technology, I was tempted to host a server of some sort that the public could use. This forum I consider to be retro technology because it reflects how i remember BBS systems during the 2000s era.

I used to be a part of a dotHack fan board that used XMB so maybe that's why I'm drawn to it in particular. But maybe hosting some other server would be amusing.

I was thinking about Ventrilo, an old voice comms app people used to use. Ventrilo was pretty much replaced by Discord in terms of convenience. Used to be the big contenders for voice comm software was Teamspeak, Ventrilo & Mumble. I had a lot of people give me an earful about downloading so many different software just to talk to one another. Then came Discord, which was able to be used within your browser without the need for registering and it solved that talking point.

There really is no reason to use Ventrilo nowadays, unless maybe you're concerned about privacy? I do hate companies mining me for data :\
