I wanted to create a forum thread instead of spamming the #dark-age-of-camelot channel on discord that helps me track progress & TO-DOs. Helps me present to the public where I'm at as well as help keep my little notes while I jump from computer to computer.
What is Cuddly Dragon DAOC?
This project is a self-hosted sandbox project of mine to create a Mordred-like PVP server for the game Dark Age of Camelot. I'm building it using the OpenDAOC codebase which appears based off the Atlas or Titan Freeshard projects. This is also a way to test if "vibecoding", the practice of coding strictly using AI is viable for private servers. This server will be in a sandbox state, so I will be trying to break it so some wiping or instability is to be expected. I would not participate unless you have time to burn. But it will be otherwise open to the public.
Server Information & Configuration:
Since the codebase is based off the Atlas freeshard, the server appears to be based off patch 1.65. There are Old RAs, Old Frontiers, and even some of the spec lines seem to be older (I was used to Eden's Mentalist versus the one I see here). There are no Catacombs classes and SI races are disabled for some reason. (I want to bring this back, and the Minotaur)

I'm thinking I will do the following:
- No major class/balance adjustments. Game balance is difficult, so I'll leave it alone.
- Keep the old RA's and Old Frontiers. Charge was dumb anyway.
- Return the disabled races including Minotaurs.
- Rates: EXP~3x / RPs~1.5x (Subject to change)
- Guild Buff Percents: BP 2% / Crafting 8% / RP 3% / XP 6% (Subject to change)
Server Feature: Exploration & Wishlist:
- PVE Zone Keep System. (Let players be able to capture areas like Prydwen Keep or Mag Mell)
- Implement FFXI-Inspired Ideas: (Notorious Monsters, HELM, Monster Pops)
- Soloing Incentives: Arenas? Dynamic Events?
- Tasks/Quests. Helping the player get from 1-50.
- Expanding Alchemy w/ difficult to get items but gives things like stealth lore.
TO-DO:
- Work on a basic character planner on the website
- Work on a basic pathway to help the player get to 1-50. Something that makes it feel less "grindy"
